TOWARDS AN INCLUSIVE SOCIETY

a Capacity Building Initiative for Ethnocultural Organizations in Edmonton

The Multicultural Coalition is starting an exciting new project!

Concerns From the Community

We will build leadership skills in the immigrant and refugee communities through training and hands-on experience.

Community leaders have expressed concerns on the following issues:

  • Too little funding to sustain activities

  • Lack of training & understanding of how to apply for and receive funding

  • Little influence on government and policy-makers

  • Challenges to involve active participation of the community

  • Need to join other groups to make collective voice on common issues

Training From the Community

We can learn and practice the skills necessary to achieve our goals and be more effective organizations through:

  • sharing our own expertise

  • working with funders

  • developing resources (manuals, information) for our community in our language

  • joining a coalition to represent our concerns

  • attending training to strengthen leadership of ethno-cultural organizations

This two-year project will bring together ethno-cultural organizations, funders and produce community action projects of your design!

We encourage community leaders to participate in this project in four ways:

  • Community leaders will provide feedback to the Multicultural Coalition by sharing expertise and requesting training.

  • Select a respected community member to participate in the train-the-trainer workshops.

  • Participate in training from the trained community member in the Fall.

  • Design, fundraise and implement a community action project in 2007.

Please contact Janina Strudwick at the Multicultural Health Brokers Cooperative 423-1973 (janina_mchb@yahoo.ca) to participate.
